Is there anywhere that you can recycle a laptop for free?

Loads of places. Which country had you in mind?
Try googling Freecycle?

Is the laptop broken? Maybe a local computer-repair shop could use it for training or parts. Maybe charities would take it. You could advertise it in a free paper for collection.

Good idea to wipe all personal files from the drive – you could use a free utility like Disc-Wipe.

Hi,

Check with your local municipality. Many cities/counties are now offering electronics recycling (e-waste recycling) as part of a comprehensive recycling program.

In many cases, you may need to bring the laptop to the site for collection. Sometimes the city/county will run special one day events at key spots in the local area to collect these items.

You may want to check out:

www.earth911.org

It will give you specific information for you city/county.

If the laptop still works, you should try and donate it to a local nonprofit. Many of them would be more than happy to take that from you. If they are a 501-(c)3, you can get a receipt and use it as a tax deduction for your 2007 taxes. Check with your tax professional about how you need to do that.

Hope this helps.
