How do I recycle my old laptop with important information on my hard drive?

I would like to find a cheap or free way to delete all important information on my hard drive before I recycle it.

Simply reformatting won’t be enough: In fact it’s not that hard to recover data from a formatted drive. What you need is something like Eraser; a free program developed under the open-source GNU public licence.

I’ve included 2 links below: One to the home page of Eraser, and the other to a Google listing of similar programs.

Google is your friend.

Try swiping a magnet over it a few times. That will destroy it for good. You could also break it open and damage the platforms (disks) inside of it, rendering it USELESS. Just cause as much damage as possible. I cracked my last one open, scratched all the disks, put lighter fluid in it, and then lit it. Then i recycled it.

Is there any way to get my recycle bin back on my main screen?
I need to empty it as its using up alot of memory!
I meant to click “empty recycle bin” and clicked “delete recycle bin” by mistake.

try rebooting and next time pick the option to empty it

How did you accidentally do that?

Whenever I accidently delete something I usually find it in the uhhhhh…. Recycel Bin. You may be totally screwed.

I did this once before, you have to go to your control panel, and look for personalization, then on the top left under where it says Tasks, look for “Change Desktop Icons”

Then, click the box next to “Recycle Bin” And hit apply, then it will appear back on your desktop :D

Right click on your desktop and then click on “Personalize”. The Personalization windows will pop up.

In the upper lerft-hand corner of the window, look for a link that says “Change Desktop Icons”. The Desktop Icons window comes up.

Check the “Recycle Bin” checkbox, and then “ok out” of the dialog boxes.

Two simple ways:

1) Microsoft Fix-It: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810869

2) Right-click some free area of your desktop and select “Personalize”. Click “Change Desktop Icons”. Put a checkmark beside “Recycle Bin” and click “OK”.

Either way, it’s simple.

Read the article, it’s tells u step by step, from an expert.
