It is standard questioning that is more and likely to be asked of everyone obviously males will be asked differently to females but I assume that everyone will be asked a mandatory questions like if they used drugs and if they have used old/used needles.
HIV/AIDS are high among gay male relationships and it is only a standard questioning to find out the likely chance of contracting the disease, if he is gay obviously due to the risk they have to know for the benefit to staff and patients!!
It is nothing to be angry about of feel your rights have been breached, if he wants to be a nurse then this it the protocol!!
I get asked a lot of questions when I give blood if I am gay, using drugs, if I am sexual active and visited or had sex with anyone in certain countries in Africa!! I will say no to most and I do not feel offended they just don't want to give blood to anyone in need if I have a high chance of infecting someone and be unaware!! When a nurse you will be dealing with a lot of bodily fluids and cross contamination is a risk!!
Addition: You do not need to be gay to have had same sex we live in a very adventurous world and people like swinging, experimenting and still be classed as straight after one gay experience!! Sex is very experimental and sexual transmitted disease is rife among all the sexes, aids/hiv is one of the highly contagious and devastating, he would be tested for Hep too!!
